The Fair Market Closes After Nine Weeks of Flavors and Connections
After nine vibrant weeks, the Fair Market, graciously hosted at Banque Bemo Space in Ashrafieh, came to a close. It now leaves behind conversations, discoveries, and connections formed between urban visitors and rural producers.
The market was part of the Aradina project, funded by L’Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD), and implemented by CIHEAM Montpellier with Fair Trade Lebanon and Action Against Hunger. It quickly became a weekend ritual, where visitors could explore stands, taste products shaped by traditions, and listen to stories behind each jar, bar of soap, or woven piece. Each week offered something new that invited guests to engage with Lebanon’s cultural and culinary heritage.
For the producers, the experience was more than just selling, but a space to learn, test ideas, and grow. “Reaching customers would have been difficult had I stayed in my village in Jbeil,” said Myriam, owner of an apiary producing specialty honey creations. “Here, we saw firsthand how people respond to our products.” Others were drawn by the values behind the market. “We participated in the Fair Market because its spirit reflects ours,” said Nuhad from Beit Jedde Guesthouse, whose proceeds support the women who make the products on display. “It helps share Lebanese-made goods with new audiences and communities.”
The Fair Market serves as a reminder that Lebanon’s villages hold not only traditions, but talent and stories worth sharing, especially when the city listens.
The spirit will continue. The Spring Edition is just around the corner.
