Fair Trade Lebanon Signs “Nassim Al Baher” Project at UN Ocean Conference to Empower Coastal Communities
Nice, France – June 9, 2025
Fair Trade Lebanon (FTL), in partnership with AFD (Agence Française de Développement), officially signed “Nassim Al Baher” project during a ceremony at the AFD’s Archipel Pavilion during the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) summit in Nice, France.
The project marks a major step in Lebanon’s commitment to blue economy growth, climate resilience and sustainable development for its coastal regions.
A Fresh Wind for Lebanon’s Coast
Led by FTL and supported by AFD, Nassim Al Baher is a three-year initiative that will:
- Promote sustainable and fair fishing practices
- Strengthen artisanal seafood processing
- Develop eco-tourism linked to marine conservation
- Support women- and youth-led cooperatives
- Build climate resilience in vulnerable communities
The project will focus on coastal areas between Okaibe and Abdeh, engaging fishers, processors, eco-tourism actors, and community-based groups. Gender equality and youth inclusion are central to its approach.
Building Coastal Economies That Last
By combining fair trade principles with blue economy innovation, Nassim Al Baher aims to boost local value chains, expand market access, and protect Lebanon’s marine ecosystems. The project supports national climate objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals, offering a model for inclusive, community-driven development.
