Lebanese Farming Communities Take Center Stage in Paris

A roundtable held in Paris under the Tawazon Tabie project brought together stakeholders from Lebanon and France to discuss pathways toward greater perseverance, amid the backdrop of continuous economic, social, and environmental challenges.

The event provided an important opportunity to bring the voices and experiences of Lebanese farmers beyond national borders, fostering dialogue with international partners committed to supporting sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods. Representatives from farmer organizations, fair trade actors, development partners, and civil society organizations to exchange perspectives on the realities faced by rural communities and the solutions needed to support their livelihoods.

Discussions highlighted the multiple crises affecting small-scale producers, including economic instability, climate change, and limited access to resources and markets. Participants also emphasized the crucial role of agroecological practices, fair trade, and local value chains in helping farming communities remain rooted in their land while adapting to changing circumstances.

Co-organized by Artisans du Monde, Commerce Equitable France, Solidar’Monde, and SIDI, the roundtable served as a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaboration between Lebanese and French organizations working toward more sustainable and equitable food systems.

The event concluded with a tasting of products from Terroirs du Liban, a socially engaged brand under Fair Trade Lebanon, offering participants a tangible connection to the communities at the center of the discussion.

Implemented by Fair Trade Lebanon and its partners, the Tawazon Tabie project seeks to empower farming communities through sustainable agricultural practices, capacity building, and improved market opportunities.
